A Story Premise Question and Solution

February 19, 2022 by Marilyn Horowitz

Happy Saturday!

It’s been a great week!

In the Scripter’s Writing Room this week, we worked on a story problem from Jen Englund.

“When a story premise is in question is there an early stress test or exercise to flush it out that might be more productive than actually writing the pilot script?”

The answer might surprise you. It’s yes, and no! You must write a treatment, a two or three-page description of the story from beginning to end.

To develop your characters, use The Four Magic Questions of Screenwriting and then do the character work in the How To Write A Screenplay in 10 Weeks book to fill out the characters, then use you can use the Word Of The Day to brainstorm scenes, and finally return to the How To Write A Screenplay In Ten Weeks book and use the Mythic Journey Map® to organize the script if you decide to write it. Also, I have a series of video tutorials on writing the half-hour comedy pilot on my website.

The Scripter’s Writing Room

The next webinar will be held on March 2nd, 2022 from 7:00-8:30 pm EST.

During the winter of 2020, the scripting technique was introduced in a free webinar series. This writing routine has led to major breakthroughs, opened possibilities, and continues to encourage creative thinking.  Now, we are using the scripting system to solve problems and remove blocks.

How To Write A Screenplay in 8 Weeks

My grandma used to say, “Done right, done once.” If you want to get your screenplay done well, and fast, this is the right class for you. Using my trademarked writing method, you will call on your native expertise to create a gripping story, and get it written in eight weeks. This is an intensive class so be prepared to write 15-25 pages a week. To facilitate this, you will have a supportive fellow writer to confer with, learn to write great dialog and a foolproof method for structuring a good story. It’s easy to write when you know what you’re writing, and have a solid craft. Join me for this adventure in creating your future!

I have three places left so hurry if you want to be a part of the class. You could have the first draft by May! Enroll here.

A final thought: if you’re interested in learning the Scripting techniques, here’s a link to the instructions.

Try it! It will change your life for the better!

Here’s to your successful writing,

Professor Marilyn Horowitz
