Let’s torture your main character with the mother of all hangovers.
Here’s the exercise:
Step 1. Assume that your main character just came out of an overindulgent
holiday, lots of heavy foods, too much toxic family, and drinking like a fish.
Upon waking the day after, he/she feels like total crap.
Step 2. Set a timer for 10 minutes.
Step 3. Writing as your main character, write about how he/she feels upon
waking, in colorful detail, then describe your character’s approach to treating
the family, booze and food hangover.
Step 4. See if you can incorporate some of this into your script.
The goal is to make writing fun, and not to be afraid to cause your main
character pain and suffering, then rescue them, get in there deep and don’t
be afraid to mine your own personal details to add color, depth, nausea, and
so forth.
