Happy Friday!
I’m so excited to share my former student Faye Ann Lee‘s new short film, The Betrothed. I so enjoyed working with her on her romcom, “Falling with Grace.” And although “Betrothed” is in a different genre, the quality of her work is excellent. If you enjoy the film please support her on social media.
Last week, in my SVA class, I was lucky enough to have my friend Michael Zam. He was recently nominated for an Emmy for his work on the show, Feud, and was generous in sharing his process with my lovely class. One of the best pieces of advice Michael shared was: keep writing no matter what.
This coming Sunday celebrates Veterans Day. My stepfather, Al, was a decorated Marine who toured seven times in Vietnam. I want to take this opportunity to recognize all veterans, living or dead and to thank them for their service.
Here are five of my favorite movies about veterans:
The Deer Hunter
Coming Home
Born on the Fourth of July
Jacob’s Ladder
Lioness
Lioness is a documentary created by my former student, Daria Sommers, and her collaborator Meg McLagan. The film tells the story of the lives of women who were unofficially used in combat in Iraq.
Happy Veterans Day and here’s to your successful writing,
Professor Marilyn Horowitz
