Happy Friday!
So happy to share the newest YourFridayFunny! Please subscribe and share with your friends. We all could use a few more good laughs!
Today is actually my birthday, and I feel happy. I reflect on the year that passed, and what I want to achieve in the coming year. I intend to complete my new novel and TV Pilot, get them placed; travel more, and dance more tango.
I asked myself how my main characters would answer the question, and also how they feel about their birthday. One of my characters is a twelve-year-old girl, and her answers were, “Get through school, be prepared for my Bas Mitzvah, spend more time with my dad.” I think she’s very cute.
Do this exercise for yourself and your main characters.
Here’s the exercise:
1. Set a timer for 3 minutes.
2. Write without stopping about how you’d feel if today was your birthday.
3. What would you accomplish in the coming year?
4. What your birthday means to you.
5. Reset timer for 3 minutes.
6. Write as if you were your main character, and answer the questions.
7. Rinse and repeat for supporting characters.
When you look this over later, you’ll find out interesting new things about yourself and your characters.
I also want to share something exciting. I’m taking a workshop at the Landmark Forum that helps you imagine success and move efficiently towards your goals. It’s an exclusive, private group, but coming up on Thursday, February 13 from 7:00-10:15, the class is open to invited guests. The Landmark Forum has really helped me become a better writer, so I invite you to get a free taste of this work as my guest. We’d also get a chance to get to know each other better. Please look at the invitation, and check out the website. If you’d like to come as my guest, let me know.
Here’s to your successful writing,
Professor Marilyn Horowitz
