It’s exciting to see that there may be an end to our quarantine sometime soon. The challenge will then be to return to ”normal.” Hopefully, because we were in close proximity to people we love, and trapped with ourselves, we have reevaluated what’s really important to us. We need new stories to help us navigate our way to a new life filled with more heartfelt meaning. We’ve been forced to spend less time away at work or school, less time on our phones, and more time with people we care about. Our values have changed, and that’s a good thing. Please join me to explore what these new stories might be, and how to tweak a current story to make it relevant to the crisis that is passing.

Using Screenplay Structure To Write About Life During the Pandemic

Join my FREE class!
Wednesday, April 29, 2020
3:00 pm to 5:00 pm EST
via ZOOM
Expanding on last week’s webinar, We’ll reprise the techniques, new students will make up a story, and returning students will learn how to expand the story into a short story, TV Pilot, movie or book.
We’ve been living in a science fiction movie since the Coronavirus has shut us down. We urgently need to process our recent experiences, regain emotional balance, and now move forward with strength and purpose. Humans have used storytelling to understand their experience since the first cavemen sat around a campfire. The Zoom meeting has become our new “Campfire.” Making meaning of our lives through storytelling is our first need once our basic survival is secured.
There are important similarities between screenplay story structure and how we actually organize and understand real life experience, for example, our need for a story to have a beginning, middle and end. We’re all hardwired for story and learning a little craft results in a satisfying experience for both writer and reader. In this webinar, you’ll learn my easy method for building good stories and then how to create short 1-2 paragraph stories, quickly and well. The Webinar will be in three parts:
1. We’ll reprise my easy method of story creation
2. New participants will structure and write a paragraph story. Returning participants will develop the stories they created in the previous webinar.
3. We’ll read some of them aloud to the group.
Please email me at marilyn@marilynhorowitz.com if you’d like to attend, and you’ll receive an invitation to join.
