I read an article in Variety today that was, just like New Year’s Day itself, a bit of a downer but still full of hope.
It focused on long dormant projects that had finally been produced and included information about Salt, Memoirs of a Geisha, A.I. and Shakespeare in Love.
For years I have told my students that if they write their movies the right way they will be made and I truly believe that. If you write good characters and structure your story well, any “no” you get will be about timing rather than criticism.
The screenplay is the journey not the destination and my wish for all of you is that this is the year you stop writing screenplays and start writing movies.
Happy New Year!
